An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time (37.5 hours) Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our Outpatients team sitting under the umbrella of Clinical Support. You will be supporting the Outpatients department by managing speciality clinic’s, facilitating patient flow, and ensuring exceptional and compassionate care. We are looking for dynamic and highly motivated individuals to join a team of dedicated and enthusiastic staff members who strive to deliver care of the highest quality.
The Outpatients department can offer opportunities to learn and develop skills in a wide range of different medical and surgical specialities. The successful candidate will need to have good communication skills with a flexible approach to working.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a drive to promote a high standard of care for our patients. This post covers our West Suffolk Hospital site as well as clinics in our satellite sites at Thetford, Newmarket and Sudbury.
Main duties of the job
Outpatient Staff Nurses are responsible for the delivery of care and the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care. They are expected to give help and support to junior staff and to act as a role model and to use their own initiative and to work independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skill. To use effective verbal and written communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team within own department and the wider clinical area and to engage in effective communication with patients, relatives and visitors. They are responsible for delivering high standards of patient care based on evidence based practice and have a professional duty to update and develop their professional practice. The post holder will support clinics on all West Suffolk Hospital Trust sites to include Thetford, Sudbury, Haverhill and Newmarket if required to do so. Outpatient’s works on a 5 week rotational rota to include Saturdays and to cover late running or evening clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Ability to work unsupervised using own initiative and acts independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skills.
Engage in effective communication with patients, relatives and visitors.
Maintains confidentiality, privacy and dignity at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Policy.
Recognises and promote diversity.
Gives all personal care as required.
Administers drugs and treatments as prescribed adhering to agreed procedures.
Prepares the environment and equipment for examinations taking into account Health & Safety issues and Infection Control measures.
Assists patients in preparation for examination, mobilisation and positioning and acts as a chaperone.
Assists the clinician with examination process and anticipates the needs of the patient and doctor e.g. biopsy and micro-suction.
Assesses the needs of individual patients and/or relatives and offers appropriate advice, reassurance, support, and advocacy, reinforcing plan for care.
Demonstrates sound judgement in assessing the emotional and physical care of patients in a holistic manner.
Plans, instructs and demonstrates procedures to patient and/or relatives. Evaluates treatment plan and takes necessary action to achieve optimal treatment objectives.
Offers information (verbal and written) or direct patient for further advice e.g. Specialist Nurse, P.A.L.S.
Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care.
Ensures written documentation is accurate, legible and succinct and forwarded as necessary e.g. Discharge plan, procedures recorded via E-Care, tests requested via E-Care.
Keeps patients and visitors up to date regarding clinic running times.
