Substantive Consultant Urologist

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Interviews will be held on Thursday the 22nd of August 2024.

In a busy unit, you will work hand in hand with our outstanding Urology and Oncology Nurse Specialists to run our consultant lead team with the support of 2 Specialist Registrars and a Urology-facing CT2.

There are great opportunities to develop your specialist interest with our Urology Area Network partners at Addenbrookes hospital: to strengthen and develop patient pathways and to access specialist operating in a Tertiary Centre. This will be balanced with a strong core urology focus and on-call in a supportive, friendly and forward-thinking District General Hospital in a beautiful, vibrant town.

Please find further information about the department here.

Main duties of the job

To share with colleague’s responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Urology Department.
Teaching and training of junior medical staff, nursing staff, and medical students.
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
To promote the development of multi-disciplinary teams and shared responsibility for the provision of care to patients.
To develop innovative working practices, and to support the growing clinical contribution of non-medical staff.
To work effectively within a team and communicate well with patients, General Practitioners and hospital colleagues.
To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
To provide high quality General urology services and to develop these to meet future needs
Consideration will be given to areas of interest including complex stone procedures (PCNL), female and functional, and male bladder outflow surgery. Opportunity to develop other areas of interest as they align with department needs will be considered.
Please see job description attached for full details.

Working for our organisation

#BeKnown at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. By us. By our patients. By our community

We are a busy, friendly, rural NHS Trust providing high-quality care and compassion to more than a quarter of a million people across west Suffolk. We care for, treat and support people in hospital, at home and in various community settings.

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.

Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

We do our utmost to achieve outstanding clinical outcomes for patients and our values of fairness, inclusivity, respect, safety and team work guide how we work and behave as a team.

With nearly 5,000 staff, from all over the world, we strive to make our organisation a great place to work. Whatever your role or ambition, we want to help you be the best you can be.

We promote a diverse and inclusive community where everyones voice counts and you can #BeKnown for whoever you are.

Join us. What will you #BeKnown for?
