Senior Community Children's Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to gain experience in the Community Children’s Nursing Team who provide high quality evidence-based practice in the community, to children who have a clinical nursing need.

Band 6 role.

The team provides a 7-day service, 08.00-18.00 weekdays and 09.00-17.00 at weekends/bank holidays.

The successful candidate will need to be a good team player, hold a full driving licence and their own vehicle, and be prepared to travel throughout the East Suffolk area.

The post would be fixed term for a year from April 2026 - April 2027 covering maternity leave and is based in the Ipswich office.

Full and part-time positions will be considered. 

Main duties are to oversee a caseload and provide clinical nursing care to children in the community including administering IVAB's, NG support, Wound care, Injections, Central line care etc.

JOB PURPOSE:

 

·         To work within the framework of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.

 

·         To undertake on-going training required to be clinically competent in caring for children with both complex/chronic and acute health care needs and their family.

 

·         Proactively participate in the creation of a dynamic flexible and responsive environment through effective communication and contribution of ideas.

 

·         Planning, implementation and evaluation of holistic programmes of care.

 

·         Educate the child, parents and carers in the promotion of health and the prevention of ill health.

 

·         Demonstrate and teach clinical procedures to parents/carers to enable them to contribute to the planned programme of care. To alleviate potential stress, and to prevent inappropriate admissions to hospital.

 

·         Be responsible for the day-to-day clinical management of the service including delegating tasks, supervising junior staff and ensuring patient safety.

 

·         Ensure the needs of children/young people and parents/carers are met at all times.

STAFF CAR PARKING

 

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 – 18:30.

 

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital.  Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

 

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete “on call” duties within their role.
