NHS Medical & Dental: Specialist Clinical Fellow

Job overview

There is the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of skin cancer. The successful candidate will be expected to assist the skin cancer consultant team in providing all aspects of the plastic surgery service including outpatient clinics, theatres and day surgery.  The postholder will get significant clinical exposure to skin cancer resection, sentinel node biopsy, node clearance and reconstruction surgery in all parts of the body for both primary and recurrent skin tumours. This experience will be of significant value in training to become a consultant plastic surgeon with opportunities to manage parallel operating lists where appropriate. There will be an expectation to be integral in the running of the see and treat clinics at Heatherwood Hospital. It will be expected that the postholder will be an integral member of the skin cancer multi-disciplinary meetings (MDMs).

Main duties of the job

There are 5 plastic surgery consultants with a subspecialty interest in skin cancer surgery. Operating lists and clinics take place at all three main hospital sites but the majority of the work is based at Heatherwood. The post holder will be expected to attend and present at the weekly MDTs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The unit has a strong history of contribution to national trials and audits with plenty of opportunity for involvement. The ability to work flexibly, cohesively and in collaboration with the existing teams is a necessary requirement for the post.

They may attend all department meetings including clinical governance, mortality and morbidity and clinical conference and be expected to contribute to the departmental teaching programme.
Full clinical admin support and office space is available at Wexham Park Hospital

The job plan will be made up of 8 programmed activities (PA) with no participation in the registrar on-call rota.
