Job overview
This role is for a full time Ophthalmic Photographer working 37.5 hours a week.
You will be required to work as an autonomous Ophthalmic Photographer, whilst also working as part of, and contributing to, a multi-disciplinary Ophthalmic team across the Ashford and St Peters' Trust as well as satellite sites run by the trust.
You will undertake various ophthalmic diagnostic tests required during busy clinics including Fluorescein Angiography, Indocyanine Green Angiography, Facial Photographs, Slit Lamp photos, OCT (anterior and posterior), autofluorescence, red free multicolour and colour fundus photography on various pieces of equipment as well as corneal topography and specular microscopy. You will also be required to perform visual field tests and be willing to learn new skills to support all clinics in the ophthalmology department.
You will work in both the main outpatient clinics as well as digital surveillance clinics covering a wide variety of eye conditions including; AMD, diabetic maculopathy/retinopathy, corneal problems, glaucoma and other 'general' pathologies.
Main duties of the job
Looking for a friendly, confident self-motivated individual who works well on their own as well as part of a team to produce a high standard of accurate and detailed imaging for clinicians to use for diagnostic and monitoring purposes. You must have experience using varied ophthalmic imaging equipment and software management systems.
Must be able to perform Fluorescein Angiograms and Slit Lamp photographs during busy clinics and support Band 4 Senior Ophthalmic Technicians as well as HCA & nursing staff with their duties and give advice/support/training where required. Must also be fully competent in OCT of the macuale and discs as well as specified areas of the retina and to use different fundus cameras to document eye pathologies required for baseline and monitoring measures. Corneal clinics require use of corneal topography imaging and corneal microscopy for endothelial cell counts.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This role mainly focusses on the provision of professional and high quality ophthalmic imaging services using a range of imaging modalities to include Fluorescein Angiography, Indocyanine Green Angiography, Slit Lamp imaging of the anterior segment of the eye, Facial photographs, Optical Coherence Tomography, retina photography, corneal topography, specular microscopy, visual field tests, IOL biometry and vision testing. As technology/equipment evolves the role will expand to include usage of new technologies.
The role is to undertake ophthalmic imaging of patients in the clinical environment which meets the technical standards and clinical requirement set any the ophthalmic department and Trust policies respectively.
You will produce high quality and accurate digital images to comply with clincians requests which illustarte relevant ocular features and pathologies. There is a legal requirement to make sure records are kept accurately, are maintained and achived in accordance to the data protection act 1998 and the trust information governance guidelines/policies.
The role also requires the post holder to be confident and approachable to assist with training other staff to use the opthalmic equipment if required.
You would also be required to take care of the equipment and report faults and issues to the relevant companies who supply the equipment and to the Lead for Ophthalmic Imaging when appropriate.

Evidence of undertaking fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography
Essential criteria
- Previously done Fluorescein angiography within current or previous role
Desirable criteria
- Previously done indocyanine green angiography within current or previous role
Use of Imaging equipment and software systems
Essential criteria
- Able to complete OCT, RNFL, BMO & Posterior Pole scans
- Competent in Slit Lamp Imaging for anterior segment photography
- Knowledge of HEYEX2, Zeiss Forum, KOWA imaging platforms
- Imaging with corneal equipment including topography, Endothelial cell count and Anterion OCT
Desirable criteria
- Experience in undertaking visual field assessments including 24-2 & 120 fields
- Training others including technicians, nurses and HCA's when required
Knowledge of eye conditions & techniques
Essential criteria
- Understanding of eye conditions such as AMD, BRVO/CRVO, Diabetic Retinopathy & Glaucoma
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of appropriate methodology for the illustration of specific pathologies
