This appointment is for a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists to cover all young people under 18 presenting in Frimley Park hospital regardless of the locality of origin. You will be Responsible Clinician for all young people under Section12 of MHA.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Consultant to work in our friendly team with acute hospital nurses based in Frimley and specialist psychiatric nurses.

This is a brand new role, and a unique opportunity to help develop the Paediatric Liaison Service at Frimley Park Hospital, providing consultation, assessment and RC provision for young people in mental health crisis. 

This role is 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday though the PLN Service will be 9am-10pm, 7 days a week.   Your role, working closely with the General Manager for the SABP EWMH Paediatric Liaison Service, would include clinically leading the PLN Service.

On a day to day basis you will be building relationships with your paediatric acute colleagues regarding young people who are in A&E or in the Paediatric Ward and discussing the clinical and managerial plan of care to meet their needs.  There will be interface with community CAMHS Services and Social Care across a wide geography which would include services such as the Crisis Intervention Team who assess young people admitted to the paediatric ward and the Hope Service and counter parts in other areas.

This role will require you to travel between multiple sites within your working day.

 

Main duties of the job

This is somewhat a unique role, as having elements of interface with social care, paediatric acute colleagues and our Hope Service counter parts, CIS team and our acute colleagues liaising with neighbouring Trusts.  We are committed to staff development and training opportunities. You will be seeing patients from any area presenting at Frimley Park hospital and have RC responsibilities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice.
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act(or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
Desirable criteria
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice
  • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and specialist teams
  • Knowledge of psychiatric provision
Desirable criteria
  • • Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course.

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning

Essential criteria
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
  • Skills and sensitivity in negotiating with patients, relatives, and other professionals where opinions differ
