Job overview
Main duties of the job
Undertake both elective outpatient clinics as well as supporting the emergency surgery service. Assessing individuals, families and carers, holistically using a range of different methods, such as physical assessment and history taking, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessments.
Use their expert knowledge and clinical judgement to decide whether to refer patients for investigations and make diagnoses
Communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team
Decide on and carry out treatment, which may include the prescribing of
medicines, or referring patients to an appropriate specialist.
Ensure the provision of continuity of care.
Assess and evaluate with patients and / or carers, the effectiveness of the
treatment and care provided and make changes as needed.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- • Registered first level nurse / AHP
- • Completed Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice
- • Non- medical independent prescribing for healthcare professionals
- • Management of patients with acute medical illness
- • In-depth knowledge in their specialist clinical field
Desirable criteria
- Demonstration of Leadership or management experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- extensive post registration experience
- • Compiling protocols and clinical guidelines
- • Leadership in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking
- • Healthcare professional prescribing
