Main duties of the job

Working within our Infinity Team, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive and exceptional midwifery care in both hospital and community environments for mothers, babies, and families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal phase.

 

Clinical duties include:

  • Fundamentally required to undertake all clinical activities that are required of a midwife.
  • Give total midwifery care in acute and primary health care setting. This will involve a flexible rota.
  • Responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in accordance with best practice
  • Advocate for women and support them in their choices surrounding pregnancy and birth, whilst empowering them and promoting birth as a normal, physiological process.
  • Ensure all care is delivered in line with current evidence based practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Our Epsom & St Helier maternity team provides a dynamic and forward-thinking environment, offering comprehensive and high-quality care to women and their families. We are committed to promoting woman-centred care, having a well-rounded team providing care to a diverse population.

High Volume of Care: Caring for approximately 4,300 women annually across our two sites.

Comprehensive Service Offering: Includes assisted conception, community services, obstetric-led labour wards, co-located birth centres, specialist midwifery teams, and our home birth team.

Positive Feedback: Women and families consistently report positive experiences, highlighting the quality of care provided. The 2024 Maternity Benchmark survey demonstrated ESTH performed above average, particularly in postnatal care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with valid NMC Pin
  • Mentorship qualification/SSSA equivalent
  • Completed Preceptorship Programme
Desirable criteria
  • Further education in Midwifery
  • NLS accreditation
  • Examination of the Newborn qualification/NIPE

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post-registration professional development and acquisition of clinical competencies
  • Relevant experience across a broad range of maternity settings
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification community experience
  • Experience working in a Continuity of Carer team

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinical midwifery skills and knowledge
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to undertake training on appointment for any relevant skills required
  • Awareness of broader Maternity service issues (National reports etc)
Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken training in supplementary midwifery skills (eg. theatre scrubbing, biomechanics training, aromatherapy etc)
  • Experience using digital maternity systems (Badger/CERNER etc)
