Job overview

The supervision of the HPV Specimen reception MLA team including daily organisation of staffing levels and trouble shooting.

 

The training and support of less experienced staff such as trainees, students and pathology support workers.

 

 

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of an efficient and effective service to all users of the Cytopathology Department.  This merged department provides a HPV primary screening service to the South East and South Central NHSCSP screening regions.

 

To assist the HPV SR site manager in running the HPV Specimen team based at SPH.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The supervision of the HPV Specimen reception MLA team including daily organisation of staffing levels and trouble shooting.

The training and support of less experienced staff such as trainees, students and pathology support workers.

To assist the HPV SR site manager in running the HPV Specimen team based at SPH.

Maintenance of a high standard of work, checking specimen and request details, any non-conformity brought to the attention of a senior member of staff.

·     To comply with the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) health and safety procedures and laboratory codes of practise at all times and adhere to Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

·  To follow laboratory procedures as detailed in departmental standard operating procedures (SOP).

·   To supervise the HPV Specimen reception team through participation in the daily rota system that ensures that the role is covered.

   To ensure that daily records covering staff attendance, workload and productivity are maintained and to report any deficiencies to the HPV SR site manager.

·  To develop effective working relationships with service users and other staff within Pathology.

  To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work

Essential criteria
  • At least 5 GCSE’s or NVQ to level 3 or equivalent.
  • Competent using BSPS LIMS i.e. Winpath Enterprise to include accessing patient results and data entry Experience and knowledge of routine gynae and/or non gynae processing techniques Experience & knowledge required to train and supervise less experienced staff

  • Willing to undergo training to ensure relevant level of knowledge Multi-tasking skills, prioritisation skills and initiative
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with all members of staff Ability to work to deadlines, well organised and flexible
