Job overview
Would you like to join a supportive and innovative dietetic department? We are recruiting a Band 5 Dietitian to work at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital in Surrey. If you are keen to develop your clinical knowledge and to embrace new ways of working within an ever-changing NHS this could be the post for you.
The postholder will hold a varied caseload covering inpatient wards, out-patient clinics, community patients and group education sessions and will be well supported by our team, which includes a wide range of speciality colleagues. The role is on a rotational basis and includes surgery, respiratory, care of the elderly, community and cardiac care.
The post also includes speciality experience in areas such as bariatric surgery, stroke, critical care, paediatrics, gastroenterology and diabetes.
There are also excellent relations with multidisciplinary teams throughout the trust.
CPD and flexible working is also encouraged within our team, to support personal and professional growth.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team at ASPH providing high quality dietetic inpatient, outpatient and community care.
They will be responsible for organising and providing nutritional care plans and services for patients, carers, and staff. The post-holder will be play an active role within the general functioning of the Dietetic Department, including contributing to student training, audits and service improvement projects.
To post holder will communicate and collaborate with a variety of team members, other HCPs and partner organisations to support service improvements and deliver high quality patient care. They will participate in the teaching and training of other health care professionals.
We are keen to support your development. We offer regular supervision and a robust appraisal system; in addition, we encourage and support CPD and quality improvement project opportunities such as our ‘mini’ rotation programme and department wide joint learning sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will actively manage a caseload of patients dependent on their clinical rotation. They will interpret complex patient data to provide high quality, safe and effective nutritional advice.
The post holder will undertake comprehensive assessments of patient’s diet and lifestyle to formulate individualised management and treatment plans. These assessments will include interpreting biochemical data and qualitative/quantitative analysis of nutritional information. They will develop treatment programmes including monitoring in accordance with local guidelines and evidence-based practice.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 4 year degree in Dietetics (or equivalent qualification)
- Registration with HCPC (or in progress)
- Training in a Primary/ Secondary care NHS setting
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the British Dietetic Association
- Student Supervisory Skills course
Experience
Essential criteria
- General experience of clinical dietetics within a NHS setting.
- Experience in enteral and oral nutritional support practices.
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
- Experience of initiating patients on home enteral feeding.
- Experience developing and delivering training and education to healthcare professionals.
- Experience of Clinical audit/ service development.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate an awareness and knowledge of national clinical and professional policies, guidelines and procedures, e.g. NICE;/BDA/HCPC Code of Conduct.
Desirable criteria
- Documented evidence of CPD
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effective time management skills and ability to prioritise a busy caseload.
- Computer literacy in particular with data collection, PowerPoint, Excel, word processing and internet use
- Motivational interviewing and negotiation skills
- Effective team working skills and understanding of team dynamics
Desirable criteria
- Delivering effective virtual and face to face training
Other
Essential criteria
- Ability to travel between various Trust site and community sites. Car driver
