Job overview

We are looking for an NHS consultant pathologist to join the team in Histology at ASPH. The role will involve participation in all aspects of the service including cutup, carried out on site at ASPH, with support from the lab team, and reporting of a variety of cases from the Trust and the wider BSPS network.

Deliver Clinical, Educational, Managerial Services of the highest professional standard at Consultant Level to the Department ,Work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients of Ashford & St Peter’s, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices.

Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients, through all parts of the Department assisting clinical decision-making and sharing equally in the workload.

The Consultant team will provide comprehensive senior clinical cover to the Department.

The post holder will participate in EQA schemes, Education and Training, Clinical  Audit, Clinical Risk Management and the Clinical Governance activities of the Department and the Trust and ensure full and proper records are completed for this purpose

The team actively support junior doctor training and have rotational SHO posts coming into Pathology.

Digital reporting is currently being implemented across BSPS.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council.
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Medical and non-medical undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience
  • Competent in the use of IT/computer systems

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of independent reporting of general diagnostic pathology
  • Active participation in clinical audit
  • Experience in developing effective and collaborative working relationships.
  • Providing direct clinical care
Desirable criteria
  • Leading a change or innovation in the workplace with a multi-disciplinary team

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Highly skilled in the management and treatment of patients admitted to the speciality.
