Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Peter’s Hospital is a tertiary service commissioned by NHS England to provide full medical neonatal services for inborn babies (both booked and transferred in-utero), as well as for ex-utero transfers from other providers.

  • We have a strong commitment to QI and excellent participation in research. Our whole team are regular contributors to national and international meetings as well as network and national working groups from CRG, BAPM to NICE. We work increasingly closely with our colleagues in maternity including in the MatNeoQI programmes of work, and our clinical governance and safety work is high quality. The post holder will have an excellent opportunity to develop skills in lung ultrasound, central lines adjustment and cranial ultrasound via a dedicated POCUS team. Additionally, our team is well known for additional non-invasive skills such as LISA, SALSA and the use of SNIPV. Opportunities therefore exist for you to develop roles and responsibilities that facilitate the further development of our neonatal service.
  • All doctors will have an educational/clinical supervisor

We are an active member of the South East Neonatal Network (SENN) which consists of Surrey, Sussex and Kent & Medway networks. We also work closely with the Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership Local Maternity Service to ensure that service developments are coordinated, sustainable and responsive to local needs.
