Are you a passionate midwife ,looking for a new challenge, at a supportive Trust? Then the role of the Support midwife for the diabetes team at Ashford and St Peter's(ASPH) is the job for you!

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic midwife to work collaboratively with the diabetes multi disciplinary team to provide personalised and safe care to women and birthing people. 

At ASPH you will work alongside a team that supports 3,300 births a year whilst working in the picturesque county of Surrey. We are very proud of our Abbey Birth Centre, level 3 Neonatal Unit and level 3 BFI accreditation. We are one of the first Trusts nationally to implement biomechanics to support physiological births.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will:

Provide information and support to women who are known to be diabetic or are diagnosed with Diabetes during their pregnancy.

Ensure referral to the appropriate health professional when deviations from the normal occur and to work in partnership with that health professional to ensure safe standards of care.

This post may be either hospital or community based with flexibility to move between care settings.

Support the Lead Midwife in collection and production of any audits.

Support the Diabetes lead Midwife with the training and education of colleagues.

When community based, the post holder will be expected to participate in the on call rota/night duty for community.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide and promote high quality midwifery care and advice within a multidisciplinary environment

Be an advocate for the woman as required, empowering her to promote her own health and well- being. Raise concerns on her behalf with the medical team as required

Maintain continuous professional development/clinical competence and acquiring new skills as required and as directed by the NMC/ Lifelong Learning 

Support the Diabetes Lead Midwife in the delivery of safe and effective

Provide expert clinical advice to women who either have pre-existing diabetes or are diagnosed during pregnancy.

To have made an effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes.

Education and qualification

Essential criteria
  • Midwifery degree or equivalent
  • Registered Midwife
  • ENB 997/8 or mentorship or SSSA

Knowledge and Skills

  • Current midwifery standards and best practice
  • Trust vision, values and strategic objectives
  • You can communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to your role,
