Ward Manager, Cherry Ward

Job overview

To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct and other professional guidelines.  To be accountable for the twenty-four-hour care delivery and management of the ward, including the supervision of students. To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care. To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff. To be responsible and accountable for the Finance and Human Resources issues directly related to the ward /department

Main duties of the job

Ensure effective communication between staff, patients, visitors and outside agencies. Work collaboratively as required to ensure effective and efficient provision of health care services. Educate patients and their carer(s) as required where a need has been identified. Participate in annual staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be responsible and accountable for the Finance and Human Resources issues directly related to the ward /department.
  • To be responsible and accountable for the implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives 
  • To promote and participate in the implementation of the ASPH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards.
  • To maintain a visible presence in the ward /department, undertaking clinical work regularly (a minimum of 50% of contracted hours)

Qualifications and Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
  • Relevant clinical course

  • Recognised Leadership course

Experience

  • Relevant clinical and managerial experience
