Job overview

This is an ideal opportunity for an ST3 or above (or equivalent, including CCT holder/equivalent) to work and gain experience in a medium sized District General Hospital with some tertiary services, including level 3 neonatal unit and an Endometriosis Centre.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in the middle-grade doctors rota covering all aspects of the specialty including but not limited to labour ward, elective caesarean section lists, emergency gynaecology, elective gynaecology theatres and out-of-hours cover.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to cover labour ward out of hours under the supervision of a consultant on call who is resident until 11pm weekdays, and non-resident during night hours. There will be opportunities to develop a special interest in a number of subspecialist areas in obstetrics and gynaecology. 
 
This is a replacement post and is for a 12 month fixed term period extendable to 24 months after a 9 month review with Clinical Lead and Service Manager.

The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest in which he/she may, with time become and independent Practitioner.

There will be opportunities to attend the department mortality/morbidity meetings and the Trust Quality and Safety half days.

The Post Graduate Education centre has a well-stocked library with access to journals and the internet with slide and video programmes. The facilities include an air-conditioned lecture theatre with audio visual equipment, and seminar rooms. Access to Post graduate courses is via the Post Graduate Centre.

The trust has a well-developed research and development unit, an active interest in medical research is encouraged
Participation in Clinical Governance is a requirement.
