Job overview
We have two 9PA posts available, one being a Consultant Paediatrician with a Specialist Interest in Paediatric Diabetes and the other having a Specialist Interest in Paediatric Oncology.

- Dedicated Children and Young Person’s Emergency Department, staffed by both Paediatricians and Emergency Department Doctors Robust systems in place for Clinical Governance and Safeguarding
- Sub specialty services in allergy, cardiology, Complications of Excessive Weight (CEW), diabetes, endocrinology, epilepsy, gastroenterology, haematology, renal, respiratory, rheumatology and oncology, with links to a number of tertiary centres.
- Full participation in National Audits such as Epilepsy 12, Paediatric Diabetes, National Asthma, RCEM Paediatric Audits

Main duties of the job
The post holders will join a team of 22 Consultant Paediatricians and will either work as part of 1 in 10 Acute Attending and on call rota or a 1 in 8 Children and Young Persons Emergency Department (CYP ED) rota.
During the Attending week the Consultant is based on the ward, Monday to Thursday 09:00 – 18:00 and Friday 09:00 – 13:00, with all other duties cancelled. When on call as part of the 1 in 10 rota you are on site 17:00 - 19:00 Monday to Thursday, 13:00 – 19:00 Friday and 09:00 – 17:00 Saturday and Sunday, then on call from home.
The 1 in 8 CYP ED rota provides Consultant Paediatrician cover in CYP ED Mon to Sunday 14:00 – 22:00, as well as additional cover 09:00 – 14:00 Fridays.
The post holders will also run General Paediatric clinics as well as being part of their sub specialty teams of diabetes or oncology.
As we have a dedicated Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit we have a separate Neonatal Team at Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 level and therefore there is no requirement to cross cover the Neonatal Unit, although we work closely together.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (or CCT) by the time of taking up the post or be accredited for inclusion on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register.
- • Fully registered with the General Medical Council.
- • MBBS or equivalent
- • MRCPCH or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- • SPIN Paediatric Diabetes or Oncology
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Providing direct clinical care
- • Active participation in clinical audit
- • Experience in developing effective and collaborative working relationships.
Desirable criteria
- • 12 months experience in Tertiary oncology and working in a POSCU
- • Evidence of involvement in Paediatric Diabetes MDT
