Job overview

We welcome Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to apply for this post. We offer regular supervision and CPD events and training.  You will have opportunities to regularly connect with psychologists working in this locality of our Trust.  

It is desirable to have experience of working in a community mental health team or secondary care services.  Access to a car is also important as this is a community-based role. 

In our Community Mental Health Recovery Service (CMHRS) we see adults with complex, severe, and enduring mental health problems.  The principles and philosophy of care are based on the recovery model.  We offer NICE evidenced based interventions.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of highly specialist psychology services for this client group, including assessment and delivery of group or individual psychological therapies.  They will be working closely with other psychologists in the team and with multi-disciplinary team members such as Mental Health Practitioners, Community Psychiatric Nurses and Psychiatrists. They will also be interfacing with other teams, such as, the Home Treatment Teams and Inpatient services. They will be actively involved in assessment and delivery of evidence based psychological interventions.  

Applicants must be registered with HCPC or soon to be eligible for registration with HCPC. 

Main duties of the job

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.

To maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in
accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005).

To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection
Policies, Procedures and legislation. 

To carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments and formulation, plan implement and evaluate delivery of psychology interventions and consultations to support people with specific needs.

To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.

To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services.

To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk 
management plans.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent or soon to receive doctorate in next 3-4 months
Desirable criteria
  • Additional training in CBT, SCM, STEPPS, EMDR

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles.
Desirable criteria
  • experience of delivering psychological therapies to people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties
