Main duties of the job
The Cardiology Matron role has been developed in response to the expanding cardiology clinical nurse specialist team. The emphasis will be on team development, patient experience and pathway improvements within the outpatient nurse-led services. This will encompass, but not be limited to; heart failure, arrhythmia, rapid access chest pain service and cardiac rehabilitation. The post holder will work clinically within one of the subspecialties whilst supporting the lead nurse in the trusts’ vision for the strategic development of Cardiology.

Education, Formal training and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered general nurse
- Mentorship or equivalent
- Qualification at degree level or above within cardiology
- Non-medical prescriber
- Significant experience within the speciality of cardiology
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- In-depth knowledge of evidence based practice
- Comprehensive knowledge of ESC, NICE and local guidelines
- Research / clinical audit experience
- Quality improvement experience
- Change management Clinical supervision Clinical governance
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to respond to emergency situations
- Physical assessment skills
- Ability to set and maintain standards of care
