This exciting opportunity is based at Farnham Community Hospital, serving North-East Hampshire, Farnham, and Surrey Heath within Frimley Health. We are proud to expand our innovative and well-established Respiratory Services team with the launch of an Acute Respiratory Virtual Ward, supported by new funding.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist / Practitioner who is passionate about delivering and promoting excellent, evidence-based respiratory care. In this senior role, you will lead and support a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physiotherapists, nursing associates, associate practitioners, physio technicians, and administrative staff. Together, you will provide high-quality care to patients with respiratory conditions, enabling them to receive treatment in their preferred place of care.
A special interest and expertise in COPD would be highly advantageous.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will provide specialist respiratory intervention, as well as supporting the multidisciplinary team in assessment and development of a holistic management plan.
You will be expected to perform assessment of respiratory patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, developing and delivering an individualised physiotherapy treatment programme based on this.
You will understand the assessment and management of multiple respiratory conditions and be aware of local and national guidelines for COPD, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Asthma and Oxygen.

The role is available in Frimley Health; based in Farnham Community Hospital covering North-East Hampshire and Farnham and Surrey Heath.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse – Part 1,2,12
- First degree in nursing, or demonstrable experience at this level
- Teaching / assessment programme
- Relevant specialist post basic programme in respiratory / experience or relevant community nursing qualification
Desirable criteria
- Diploma/ degree in respiratory care (COPD / Asthma) or willing to complete
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant substantial clinical experience in the same or related specialty OR recent clinical experience in acute or community settings
- Experience in managing the acutely unwell respiratory patient
- Previous experience in audit and evaluation
- Experience in acting as a clinical supervisor and mentor to others
Desirable criteria
- CBG / ABG interpretation
- Previous community nursing experience
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in general nursing.
- Knowledge of key professional issues and NMC guidelines and codes, relating to professional practice
- Knowledge of the COPD and asthma outcomes strategy, NICE & BTS guidelines
- Able to work autonomously and within a team.
- Keyboard and word processing skills
- Demonstrates skilled written and verbal communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
- Advanced clinical assessment skills
- Knowledge of blood gas interpretation
Special Requirements
Essential criteria
- Full driving licence and access to a car for use to travel across sites and perform domiciliary visits.
- Willing and able to work weekends and unsocial hours
