Quality Support Officer: Point of Care Testing and Qpoint EQAS

Job overview

We are looking for a motivated Quality Support Officer (Band 5) to join our POCT and Qpoint EQAS team within BSPS.
 
This role supports high‑quality service delivery by assisting with data analysis, quality management, POCT device support, and Qpoint EQA activities across multiple sites.
 You will work closely with the Band 7 Coordinator and wider team to maintain safe, compliant and efficient services.
This developmental post offers valuable experience in POCT, EQA, ISO standards and service improvement.
 
Visa Sponsorship:
This position is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already hold the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the contract.

Main duties of the job

  • Collate, analyse and report POCT and Qpoint performance and quality data.
  • Support audits, manage non‑conformities, and assist with corrective and preventive actions (including RCA).
  • Maintain and update policies, SOPs and document control processes.
  • Assist with incident, complaint and accident investigations and produce reports.
  • Support POCT equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and first‑line technical issue resolution.
  • Contribute to preparation, validation and processing of Qpoint EQA circulation materials.
  • Extract, manage and analyse complex datasets; produce dashboards and performance reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO accreditation standards and quality assurance requirements.
  • Provide administrative support, including meeting attendance, communication with users, and minute‑taking.
  • Work collaboratively across BSPS sites to ensure consistent, safe and efficient service delivery.

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of laboratory/point of care testing environments
  • In depth understanding of the principles of EQA
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with ISO standards for POCT/EQA
  • Experience with databases, POCcelerator or POCT middleware.
  • Documented POCT experience.
  • Experience with validation, verification and QC procedures for POCT analysers.
  • Experience managing device evaluations in varied environments.

  • BSc degree or equivalent
  • Working towards (or committed to) completion of a Registration Portfolio

  • HCPC registration
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification.
  • Evidence of CPD.

Special Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel independently across all BSPS sites (including lone working at weekends).
  • Participation in the weekend and Bank Holiday rota.
