Specialist Dietitian Gastroenterology

Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Band 7 for our gastroenterology speciality to lead the service during a 13-month fixed term contract. This post will combine clinical expertise, management, leadership and multidisciplinary working to deliver a key service for our Trust and to manage complex gastroenterology conditions. The post will actively support gastroenterology conditions within the in and out-patient setting and be an integral member of the IBD multidisciplinary team.

Our department is a well-established team with dietitians working within 12 specialities. Our department values each individual within the team by supporting wellbeing, personal development and regular supervision, which creates a supportive team environment. We have a focus on encouraging continued professional development by providing internal and external opportunities for learning.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert dietetic input to the gastro and IBD MDT, offering specialist advice on nutrition support, enteral feeding and complex cases.
  • Lead and supervise three gastroenterology dietitians, providing clinical supervision, line management, training and mentorship.
  • Deliver training sessions to MDT colleagues, ward staff, students and colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous professional development. This will include attendance at a weekly IBD MDT, which will be held on a Monday.
  • Lead and participate in clinical audits, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and development of the gastroenterology dietetic service, ensuring alignment with national guideline and best practice.

  • Recognised degree in nutrition and dietetics or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • Advanced communication course
  • Evidence of further postgraduate study in specialisation up to MSc level or equivalent
  • Leadership or supervisory course

  • Member of British Dietetic Association and active member of specialist clinical interest group
