Job overview
Applicants are invited to apply for the role of Simulation fellow in Frimley Emergency Department. The role is 75% clinical and 25% non-clinical. We are looking for doctors to start August 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for doctors to maintain clinical work but also have time in their schedules dedicated to areas of interest to them. We see this as a way of sustainable working whilst also building on CVs and experience.
Study leave: 18 days (10 days general study leave, 5 days private study leave, 3 days for exams or interviews). Study budget: £650 per year.
The emergency medicine rota will include evening, night, weekend and bank holiday working. LTFT enquiries are welcome.
Applicants must have a minimum of 24 months experience working as a doctor in the NHS. This advert is open to ST1-2 and ST3-5 applicants.
Main duties of the job
- To attend a course in Level 1 emergency ultrasound (if the applicant does not have this already) in the first 3 months of the post. This includes FAST, AAA, echo in life support and vascular access
- Self-directed time to become level 1 accredited (Your supervisor and the ultrasound tutor will support your accelerated accreditation of level 1)
- Following accreditation, to be available to undertake POCUS scans of ED patients to help inform clinical decision making for non-accredited colleagues
- To lead on one or more point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) related quality improvement projects
- To organise ultrasound teaching for ED staff. You will organise the ultrasound guided access training which is a 3-day shadowing opportunity with the hospital IV access team. You will also coordinate the practical teaching slots delivered by the ultrasound tutor
- To deliver level 1 training locally to ED staff, once qualified to do so
- To work with the other ED fellows to expand your experience and support each others’ projects

Experience
Essential criteria
- 24 months experience working as a doctor in the NHS
- Clinical experience relevant to emergency medicine
- Experience of audit or quality improvement or research
- Teaching experience
Desirable criteria
- Is currently training in an acute specialty or is planning on a career in an acute specialty
- Ultrasound experience
- Level 1 Emergency Ultrasound course or other relevant course
- Life support courses
Special Requirments
Essential criteria
- Able to work flexible shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays as required
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC at time of application
- MRCEM or equivalent
- First Medical Degree
Desirable criteria
- Progress towards specialty-specific exams

- Sound clinical knowledge and skills appropriate to grade
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives and staff
