Infection Prevention & Control Practitioner

Band 6

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Frimley Health Infection Prevention & Control Team as a Band 6 Infection Prevention & Control Practitioner. This permanent position will be primarily based at Frimley Park Hospital, offering a rewarding chance to contribute to patient safety and high-quality care through infection prevention.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced registered practitioner from nursing, midwifery, or allied health professional backgrounds. Applicants should have significant experience working at Band 5 or above within an acute hospital setting, demonstrating a strong understanding of infection prevention and control principles.

The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic, supportive, and forward-thinking team, playing a key role in promoting best practice, reducing healthcare-associated infections, and supporting clinical teams through advice, education, and audit. You will be expected to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust.

This role offers a unique opportunity to expand your specialist knowledge and contribute to service development within a progressive NHS Foundation Trust committed to continuous improvement and excellence in care.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Infection Prevention & Control Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering the Trust’s Infection Prevention & Control Annual Plan. Your responsibilities will include the identification, prevention, surveillance, and management of infections across the Trust, supporting patient safety and high standards of care.

You will contribute to the investigation and management of infection-related incidents and outbreaks, undertake clinical audits, and assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based policies and procedures. A key part of your role will involve educating and supporting staff at all levels, promoting best practice and infection prevention strategies throughout clinical and non-clinical areas.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong interest and enthusiasm for infection prevention and control, with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. You will be able to influence and engage staff across all disciplines, working collaboratively within a supportive team environment. Competence in using Microsoft Office applications is essential, and you must demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional development. A flexible and proactive approach is required, along with the ability to act as a visible role model for safe, effective practice.
