Medicines Optimisation Senior Lead

NHS AfC: Band 8b

Job overview

Join our collaborative Medicines Optimisation function, working across the Thames Valley system to improve outcomes for a population of approximately 2.5 million people.

Medicines Optimisation is a core function of the health and care system and a key lever for improving population health, patient safety, quality and financial sustainability. It supports the safe, effective and equitable use of medicines, delivering maximum value for patients, communities and the NHS.

Within Thames Valley, the FHFT-hosted delegated Medicines Optimisation Function works with the Thames Valley ICB and partners across primary, secondary and tertiary care, community pharmacy, primary care networks and neighbourhoods. Together, we reduce unwarranted variation, promote evidence-based practice and NICE guidance, and support high-quality, integrated care pathways and seamless patient journeys.

Our work supports the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan and is underpinned by a strong culture of collaboration, shared purpose and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

As a Medicines Optimisation Senior Lead, you will provide senior leadership across substantial medicines optimisation portfolios within the FHFT-hosted delegated Medicines Optimisation Function. Working within the Thames Valley ICB medicines optimisation workplan and operational priorities, you will translate system priorities into deliverable programmes with measurable improvements in quality, safety, outcomes, value and sustainability.

You will lead complex programmes across organisational and professional boundaries, manage and develop teams, oversee performance and delivery and provide senior specialist advice to partners and decision-makers. You will act as a senior leader within the delegated function, support the development of the wider medicines optimisation

service and deputise for the Head of Medicines Optimisation or Head of Pharmacy Primary Care Transformation as required.
