Job overview

The Neonatal Unit at Frimley Park is a Level 2 Neonatal Unit made up of 2 Intensive Care, 6 High Dependency and 8 Special Care cots. The unit cares of babies over 27 weeks gestation and stabilises any baby under that gestation, to be transferred to a tertiary hospital/NICU.

Our team aspires to provide high quality and evidenced based clinical, developmental and family integrated care in order to ensure the best outcomes for our babies and their families.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experience nurse who is passionate and enthusiastic about neonatal care to join our education team.

Main duties of the job

This exciting opportunity for a Neonatal Practice Development Nurse on the Neonatal Unit, will allow the applicant to facilitate learning and development of pre and post registration staff, developing student nurses, nursing associates, newly registered staff on preceptorship, and staff working through the QIS course.  You will be working in collaboration with the Paediatric and Neonatal Education team on to facilitate a high quality learning environment for our students, newly registered staff on preceptorship, and learners on QIS course, delivering education specific to neonates within Frimley Health.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registrant
  • Qualified in speciality
  • Practice assessor or equivalent
  • Up to date with mandatory training
Desirable criteria
  • Registered children's nurse

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Two years working recently at Band 6
  • Recent experience of supervising, assessing and supporting students and learners
  • Recent experience of supporting nursing staff in the NNU
  • Recent experience as a nurse in charge within NNU
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of change management

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of preregistration education
  • Ability to support staff working within NNU
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Completion of nurse in charge competency
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the NHS
  • Presentation skills
  • Facilitating simulation
