Homecare Pharmacy Technician

Band 5

Job overview

We have an exciting vacancy for a GPhC‑registered Pharmacy Technician to join our Homecare Services team.

Pharmacy homecare services work with external homecare providers to supply patients with specialist medicines and treatments directly to their homes. Where necessary, nurse training can also be included to support patients in using their treatment safely and confidently.

In this innovative role, you’ll help coordinate safe, efficient, and patient‑centred care.

You will work closely with pharmacists, specialist clinicians, and external homecare providers to ensure patients receive their medicines on time and with the support they need.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, detail‑driven technician with strong administrative and organisational skills. You’ll be part of an expanding service with opportunities to support service development, contribute to quality improvements, and shape the future of homecare within the Trust.

If you’re enthusiastic, proactive, and keen to be part of a growing and evolving area of pharmacy, this role offers variety and the chance to make a difference to patient experience every day.

Main duties of the job

  • To work with the Homecare Services Manager in the management of both new and existing homecare services for all therapy areas.
Support in biosimilar and generic switches of medications to make valuable cost savings for the Trust safely and effectively.
  • To provide advice and technical support to patients, carers, Homecare providers and Trust staff regarding homecare enquiries.
  • Process homecare prescriptions in a timely manner, ensuring they are clinically screened, using pharmacy computer systems.
  • This includes checking if individual patients have funding approval using Blueteq.
  • To ensure accurate documentation and records are maintained within the service area.
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of the homecare service, and to train members of staff as required.
  • Process homecare invoices accurately within the agreed payment timeframe and resolve invoice queries with homecare providers.
  • Help manage the day-to-day workflow within the homecare department and prioritise work accordingly.
  • To support the dispensary and work using the EPIC electronic prescribing system and Omnicell drug cabinets to provide an accurate, timely and cost-effective pharmacy service.
  • Providing excellent patient care to both inpatients, outpatients and external care units.
  • Accurate labelling, dispensing and checking a wide range of prescription types including controlled drugs, clinical trials, total parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, home IV and palliative care.
