Job overview
As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by collecting high-quality blood samples from patients across Frimley Park Hospital, as well as local sites including Farnham Hospital and the Aldershot Centre for Health.
Working within both inpatient wards and outpatient departments, you will help ensure that accurate and timely blood samples are available for diagnostic testing, enabling clinicians to make effective treatment decisions.
You will receive full training and ongoing supervision to develop your skills and confidence in all aspects of phlebotomy, infection control, and patient communication.
This role requires professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail to maintain high standards of patient safety and comfort.

Main duties of the job
- The post holder will work as part of the pathology team, under direct supervision, to deliver an efficient and high-quality blood collection service for patients across Frimley Park Hospital and associated sites including Aldershot Centre for Health and Farnham Hospital.
- The role involves obtaining venous blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, and clinic attendees, ensuring patient comfort and safety while maintaining strict infection control and confidentiality standards.
- The post holder will contribute to the smooth running of the department by ensuring timely and accurate sample collection, labelling, and delivery to the laboratory.
- The role requires adherence to hospital and departmental policies, effective communication with patients and staff, and a commitment to professional development.
- Training will be provided to achieve competence and maintain service quality across all designated areas.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSEs in English and Math’s. Successful applicants will have to undertake an English and Maths assessment prior to interview.
- Trained in Phlebotomy
Desirable criteria
- Aspirations to achieve relevant QCF.
- Venepuncture certificate or evidence of training
- Desire and aspiration to achieve phlebotomy competency.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to work methodically and accurately, paying attention to detail
- Computer Literacy
- Good communication
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to speak other languages.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Customer service experience.
Desirable criteria
- Worked as a Phlebotomist in the NHS
- Previous experience in a Health care environmet
- Health care experience with direct patient care
Special Requirements
Essential criteria
- Can undertake an initial 6-week training programme running concurrently over five days per week.
- Ability to stand and bend for prolonged periods
- Ability to work in environment with frequent exposure to body fluids and biological hazards and for prolonged periods of standing and bending.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to travel between suits.
