Job overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 7 Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our dynamic nursing team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of our Skin Cancer service on a 2-year fixed term contract.
As a Skin Cancer CNS, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You will work autonomously in a nurse-led environment, using your specialist knowledge and advanced clinical skills to support patients across all stages of the skin cancer pathway. Working closely with a well-established multidisciplinary team, you will act as a key worker for patients, providing expert assessment, education, psychological support, and care coordination.
You will be responsible for promoting evidence-based practice, leading on service improvement initiatives, and supporting education and training for both patients and staff. The role also includes contributing to audit, data collection, and clinical governance to ensure safe and effective service delivery.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a defined caseload of patients requiring ongoing monitoring, surveillance, and follow-up care for skin cancer, demonstrating advanced clinical expertise and autonomous decision-making. They will deliver high-quality, evidence-based care across all stages of the skin cancer pathway, acting as a key worker and advocate for patients and their families.
A key responsibility will be providing day-to-day clinical leadership and support to junior members of the Skin Cancer Nursing team, fostering professional development and ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care. The post holder will actively contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and educational resources, promoting continuous service improvement.
The role will involve leading initiatives to improve patient experience by actively encouraging service user feedback through surveys, audits, and patient forums. The post holder will represent the service at local and national meetings, including Cancer Alliance networks, to influence and support the development of skin cancer services in line with best practice and national guidance.
In addition, they will contribute to data collection, service evaluation, and clinical governance activities to maintain high standards of care and ensure compliance with national targets and Trust objectives.

Essential criteria
- Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialism eg– Oncology, dermoscopy, skin lesion recognition, minor surgery
- Degree in Nursing, Masters degree (level 7), or equivalent education / professional development in advanced practice or willingness to complete this
Desirable criteria
- Leadership/management qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant senior post registration experience in cancer care at band 6
- Leadership and management of staff
- Ability to work at pace, establish effective working relationships and develop strong team working
- Patient education/counselling skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate involvement in recent research
- Experience of working as a clinical expert/leader
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the national cancer agenda and skin cancer guidelines
- Ability to serve on project groups and/or committees
Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading patient involvement/patient feedback initiatives
