Job overview

Are you a qualified Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), or a student due to qualify soon? Are you looking to take the next step in your career within a dynamic and supportive environment?

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is excited to welcome a Band 5 Registered Practitioner to our dedicated Surgical and Emergency Theatre Team. Whether you’re newly qualified or bring years of experience, this is your opportunity to thrive in a forward-thinking trust that prioritises patient care and professional development.

Main duties of the job

As part of our multi-disciplinary team, you’ll work alongside skilled professionals – including Registered Nurses, ODPs, Assistant Theatre Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants, and Trainee Nursing Associates – in an environment that values collaboration, clinical excellence, and continuous learning.

Working for our organisation

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust provides NHS hospital services for around 900,000 people across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and south Buckinghamshire.

As well as delivering excellent general hospital services to local people, we provide specialist heart attack, vascular, stroke, spinal, cystic fibrosis and plastic surgery services across a much wider area.

We have three main hospitals - Frimley Park in Frimley near Camberley, Heatherwood in Ascot and Wexham Park near Slough.

Our three core values, and the behaviours that support them, guide everything we do and set out what we expect of our staff in the way they treat patients, visitors, service users and each other, Committed to Excellence, Working Together and Facing the Future.

We are also proud to host the Defence Medical Group South East at Frimley Park with military surgical, medical and nursing personnel working alongside the hospital's NHS staff providing care to patients in all specialties

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You’ll work as a vital member of the theatre team, supporting safe, effective, and compassionate care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Scrubbing and assisting for surgical procedures across various specialties

  • Promoting safe and efficient use of equipment, consumables, and staffing

  • Maintaining high standards of infection control, safety, and clinical documentation

  • Supporting communication and teamwork across departments

  • Contributing to staff training and mentoring junior colleagues

  • Assisting with stock control and theatre readiness

  • Supporting the Trust’s Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance, and Risk Management objectives

Shifts cover a 24/7 rota, including long days (07:30–19:30), nights (19:00–07:30), weekends, and bank holidays.

There may also be occasional opportunities to support our hospitals in Wexham and Heatherwood across the Trust.
