Job overview

We are looking to appoint a high-quality individual with a specialist interest in renal cancer and upper urinary tract surgery/ pathology to join an established team delivering a regional, high volume specialist service as part of the department of Urology based at Frimley Park Hospital, within Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

Please refer to the attached job description. Please note that any provisional timetable will be flexible and the post holder will be expected to see new patients as well as operating on patients from the waiting list. Sessions will be a mixture of fixed and flexible and may require you to work on a Saturday.

The Trust has a locally agreed Job planning Document which is available on request; consultants are expected to have an annual job planning review. 

The post holder will be expected to see new patients and follow up outpatients whilst maintaining expecting new to follow up ratios, they will be expected to operate on patients from their own and a pooled waiting list and may be required to work at any facility that the trust owns, leases or manages.

 The appointee will have access to secretarial support and office facilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointment of this Consultant post would supplement the workload of existing Consultants delivering renal surgery through the Frimley Renal Cancer Centre (FRCC) and across the breadth of the subject including Core Urology as delivered through a high-volume District General Hospital, including a general Urology on call commitment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCS or equivalent registration
  • Full GMC registration
  • Possession of CCST or within six months of receipt at the date of interview or equivalent
  • Evidence of research activity or higher degree

Competencies for role

  • Able to evaluate own clinical practice
  • Able to demonstrate innovative thinking
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Be able to work effectively in a team
  • Able to demonstrate effective leadership skills
  • Ability to organise and develop service provision
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literate- confident using MS Office, email and internet
  • Pre-existing experience working with Epic

Professional/Specialist/Functional experience

Essential criteria
  • • A wide grounding during training of all aspects of Emergency and elective surgery within the speciality of Urology
  • • Clinical skills to support cancer diagnostics
  • • Understand principles and participated in audit activity
  • • Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice
  • • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
  • • Ability to demonstrate team working
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates and operative skills to trainee specialists
  • • Undertaken research with published papers in refereed journals
  • • Ability to demonstrate and participate in the management of change and service development.
