Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic Nursery Kitchen Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support the daily preparation and delivery of nutritious meals for children in our care. You will assist with all catering-related tasks and maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen environment. Following direction from the Nursery Manager, you will help ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations.

This is a permanent, part-time position (22.5 hours per week).

Main duties of the job

  • Prepare food services areas and equipment e.g. placing equipment ready for use.
  • Assist in food preparation e.g. peeling vegetables prepping fruit for snacks, make sandwiches and help serve food that is delivered by main kitchen.
  • Assessment of good portion control, manage food waste and appropriate record keeping

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths pass or equivalent
  • Period of induction and on the job training.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of relevant Health and Safety, Employment, and other legislative requirements.
  • Food Safety and Health and Safety Level 2.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Basic catering experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in healthcare.
  • Infection prevention and control.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate literacy, numeracy, and comprehension skills.
  • Good communication skills – able to read and understand written and verbal communication and instruction.
  • Able to deal confidently and professionally with members of the staff.
  • Able to use own initiative to cope in a variety of situations.
  • Good time management skills – able to plan and prioritise time and workload.
