Job overview

A brand-new opportunity has arisen for a registered and experienced midwife to join Frimley Health as a 'Lead Midwife for Preterm Birth'.

This role will involve working across both sites at Frimley Health: Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley and Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for triaging referrals, liaising with relevant patient groups and leading on quality improvement and audit projects regarding preterm birth. 

The post holder will work closely with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening teams on both sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As postholder you will:

  • Provide support for pregnant women and their families by ensuring the correct monitoring is in place through cervical length scanning and ensuring the correct treatment is established with the aim to prevent preterm births within your scope of practice.
  • Monitor referrals into the preterm birth service and ensure patients are seen in a timely manner while maintaining the administration and standards of the service.
  • Use excellent communication skills to provide specialist advice regarding preterm birth to the multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Lead on monitoring compliance and implementing the ‘Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle No. 5 – Reducing Preterm Births’.
  • Work closely together with the Patient Safety and Quality Team and build relationships within the team to lead on investigations involving preterm birth.
  • Share learning points from investigations with relevant and maternity staff with the aim to embed changes in practice.
  • Liaise with the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (Frimley LMNS) to provide data and information about services and ongoing improvement within the Trust.
  • Work and communicate where appropriate with other providers across the region and beyond to promote a collaborative approach to improving the preterm birth service.
  • Stay up to date with preterm birth innovation, improvement work and research to ensure local pathways are continuously in line with best practice.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife currently on NMC register
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification for cervical length measurement by ultrasound

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 3 years post registration experience (18 months as Band 6)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in guideline development and implementation
  • Experience in research and audit
  • Experience of implementing and influencing clinical governance processes
