Job overview
The Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department sees approximately 75000 patients every year. To support and enhance the care we provide to patients we are looking to recruit a calm, friendly and welcoming reception to Guildford Ward incorporating cross cover to A&E, Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care.
This is an exciting time to join the Emergency Department as we have recently undergone a rebuild to enhance the patient’s journey through the department. We have introduced dynamic patient pathways to improve patient flow and experience that has resulted in the vast improvement of the department’s performance.
Main duties of the job
Provide a friendly, caring and efficient reception service to our Emergency Floor.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working a full shift pattern (days, evenings, and weekends) you will provide a full range of reception / clerical duties to Guildford Ward in the Emergency Department.
Including:
· Receive and register all patients onto the patient information database (CERNER)
· Patient care
· Filing
· Assisting the clinical team with administration duties
· Admit and discharge patients to other areas within the Emergency Department
(AEC)
· Booking patient follow-up appointments liaising with other departments if necessary
· Assist with the management of Patient records (CAS cards and medical notes) – filing and retrieval of cards when required
· Telephone enquiries
· Greeting patient visitors and acting as a front of house for all enquiries

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- General education to GCSE level or equivalent
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in patient contact position
- Previous experience of communicating with the public and staff at all levels
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience in admin role
- Familiarity/previous experience with CERNER or similar system
