Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics
Locum Consultant
Job overview
A twelve-month Locum Consultant Anaesthetist position is available to start as soon as possible.
We are delighted at your interest in joining our Anaesthetics department at the Royal Surrey Hospital.
We are a department that provides a consultant-led service to dynamic surgical teams at the cutting edge of surgical innovation. Our department prides itself in allowing individuals to develop and bring their own areas of expertise and interest to what is already a very diverse mix of special interests. These include the more conventional areas such as examinerships, deanery roles, quality improvement, editorships, fellowship leads etc; but have expanded to medical examiner roles, mortality reviews, clinical risk, project management, ethics, management roles within the trust and even Magistracy.
Main duties of the job
There is increasing demand for anaesthetic support for procedures away from theatres, with endoscopy, interventional radiology and radiotherapy being at the forefront of expansion recently. These are relatively new areas of demand, and along with an expansion of elective obstetrics and obstetric clinics offers a new consultant niche areas to organise and streamline. We are also expanding our pre-assessment service including a greater provision of consultant-led high-risk anaesthetic clinics and CPET.
The department has historically led the way in holding senior deanery roles and we would look to new consultants to join our group of educational supervisors.
Work has started on a purpose built, modular, ambulatory care centre – the Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre (CASIC) - in the grounds of the RSFT that will give us additional capacity of 6 new theatres and associated facilities. Expected to come online in 2026, this exciting development opens up new opportunities to appointees. This will include involvement in planning new protocols and pathways for the area.
