Job overview

We are seeking an experienced Locum Consultant Cardiologist to join our dynamic and collaborative cardiology team on a fixed-term basis of 6 months. This is a 2 PA per week post, focused exclusively on supporting our established Cardiac MRI (CMR) service.

The successful applicant will hold independent Level III accreditation in CMR reporting (SCMR/ESC) and will join a department of 5 full-time consultants, 1 part-time consultant, and 2 Associate Specialists, 2 of whom currently support the CMR service.

There is no on-call commitment attached to this post.

Main duties of the job

Working within the CMR service, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Independently reporting and signing off CMR scans (adult, stress and ACHD)
  • Attending the weekly CMR multidisciplinary team meeting (Thursdays, 14:00–15:00)
  • Contributing to triaging and protocolling of CMR referrals and troubleshooting bookings and radiographer issues.
  • Participating in clinical audit, appraisal and job planning
  • Contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the educational supervision of junior medical staff
  • Supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Cardiology
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for GIM
  • MBBS or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant evidence of experience in clinical leadership
  • Wide experience of Cardiology Medicine equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Cardiology
  • Demonstrates the range, depth and breadth of competencies required as a general cardiologist
  • Level III CMR accreditation (SCMR / ESC)
Desirable criteria
  • Out of Programme management experience (e.g deanery secondment) or equivalent
