Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is integral to the storage, distribution, and review of radiology images across the Trust, supporting clinical decision-making in inpatient wards, theatres, outpatient departments, and clinic areas. Imaging modalities include Computed Radiography (CR), Digital Radiography (DR), Mammography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Angiography. PACS plays a critical role in the delivery of timely and accurate diagnostics, particularly in high-acuity areas such as ITU and the Emergency Department.

The Radiology Information System (RIS) underpins the electronic management of patient imaging episodes, including appointment scheduling, procedure tracking, and results reporting. It is used by a wide range of staff across the Trust and is fully integrated into the broader clinical systems infrastructure to support efficient communication with referring clinicians.

The post holder acts as a senior specialist in radiology informatics and will work across all Trust sites, collaborating with clinical, technical, and operational teams to ensure the continuous availability and performance of PACS and RIS. They will support the wider PACS administration team in maintaining system integrity, troubleshooting issues, and enabling access to imaging and reports wherever required for patient management, diagnosis, and treatment.
The role also requires confident and professional engagement with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including clinical and non-clinical Trust staff, modality service engineers, RIS/PACS vendors, and external NHS bodies. In addition to their digital responsibilities, the post holder will contribute to clinical service delivery through active participation in image acquisition.
