We are looking for an enthusiastic administrator to join our Audiology Department at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.  If you thrive on working in a busy environment, communicating with professionals and the public and have good organisation skills then this is the job for you!

 

Please note this role may involve 7-day a week working to support the service.  Core hours of service are 9am - 5pm.  Flexible working patterns can be discussed at interview.

Main duties of the job

We are a large department that provides specialised Audiology services to RSCH and 4 outreach clinics across Surrey and Hampshire.  The administration team consists of 5 administrators.

The postholder will be expected to enter a rota of covering Audiology reception at RSCH and providing daily administration for the department.   As the first point of contact with the public they will be representing the department in a professional manner, be deaf aware and work efficiently in a busy and demanding environment. 

 

The postholder should have excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude. The Audiology department is able to offer training opportunities to enhance administrative skills and audiological knowledge.

 

The RSCH Audiology department is a progressive department where our patients, quality of service, research, education and training are priority. 

 

We provide a comprehensive audiology service including a diagnostic and rehabilitation service for children/adults, Vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation service, Tinnitus and Hyperacousis service and the provision of private hearing aids. 

 

The postholder will have the opportunity to with other professionals, volunteers and Audiology students and be part of a friendly, supportive and highly professional team.

JOB SUMMARY:

To communicate effectively with patients and their family and to adjust communication appropriately to those patients who are hard of hearing. 

To represent the Audiology Department as a professional health service and often be the first point of contact for patients and families to the Audiology Department. 

  1. Maintaining good and effective communication with all staff and the general public.
  2. Being deaf aware and representing the department in such manner as often being the first point of contact to the department.
  3. Taking responsibility for handling complaints and any concerns arising from patients and forwarding them through the management framework of the department as appropriate.
  4. Being able to deal with aggressive or confrontational patients in an effective, polite and understanding manner.
  5. Covering reception of the RSCH Audiology clinics.

6.     Managing and taking responsibility for patients as they arrive for their appointments.

7.     Booking, rescheduling and cancelling Audiology appointments of RSCH clinics at Guildford and other external sites.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A good standard of general education to ‘A’ Level or equivalent √ A/I

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of Word, email and internet
  • Working knowledge of a range of software packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities and understanding of the guidelines and targets in own area of work
  • Experience of dealing with the general public √ A/I
  • Demonstrates deaf awareness √ A/I
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of the Trust Patient Administration System (Cerner) and Audiology PAS system √ A/I
  • Knowledge of patient pathways and medical terminology in own area of work
  • Experience of working in busy environment
  • Experience in an Administrator role
  • Experience in using patient administration systems
  • Working with people with a disability
  • Experience of working in a large complex organisation and a multidisciplinary environment
