AfC Band 6

Job overview

Millbridge ward is a fast paced Medical ward within the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with a specific interest in gastroenterology.  We are a 30 bedded unit with a very varied age range of patients admitted with a vast range of medical conditions. There are 6 monitored beds which allow us to provide a high quality of patient care to those with deteriorating and acute conditions, including bleeding oesophageal varices and other complications arising from liver and inflammatory bowel disease.

We work closely with the alcohol liaison team to provide safe and effective support to patients experiencing adverse effects from alcohol withdrawal and long term related conditions.
Having close links with the University of Surrey facilitates very good opportunities for Nurses to support their clinical development and experience in mentoring student nurses.

Ideally the applicant will have excellent communication skills, good clinical knowledge and be keen to develop their skills in the field of acute medicine. We are looking for motivated and confident staff, committed to delivering a high standard of nursing care.

Interviews will be conducted in person. Candidates are required to complete a Mathematics and English assessment prior to the interview.

Main duties of the job

As nurse in charge they have overall responsibility for day-to-day management of their clinical area and for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. They will manage, support and lead a team of nurses in the delivery of evidence based patient-centred care, which is of a high standard. They will assist the senior sister in the management of staff including appraisal, rota’s, recruitment and selection and the supervision of learners. They will provide advice and support to patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources and liaise with the senior sister at all times. The will provide leadership on the Trusts values and behaviours.
