Join our small, friendly, and highly skilled Lymphoedema Service at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust as our new Band 7 Lymphoedema Clinician and Team Leader.

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated clinician to lead our community based service, delivering high quality care to people living with lymphoedema across the local area. You’ll run a mix of community clinics and domiciliary visits, providing specialist assessment, treatment, and ongoing management.

As Team Leader, you’ll also take on line management responsibilities, supporting the development and wellbeing of our small, supportive team.

What you’ll be doing
•    Leading the lymphoedema team — providing clinical leadership, supervision, and service development input.
•    Running community clinics — delivering specialist assessment and treatment, clinics run at The Beacon Centre, Haslemere Hospital, Woking, Farnham and Staines. 
•    Carrying out home visits — ensuring accessible care for patients with mobility or health challenges.
•    Driving service quality — helping shape the future of our lymphoedema provision.

Main duties of the job

The Band 7 Lymphoedema Clinical Specialist takes a lead role on the lymphoedema service and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team on the provision treatment for those with cancer and non-cancer related lymphoedema.

They will provide a high quality, evidence based lymphoedema service, addressing the symptoms of lymphoedema for those with cancer and non- cancer related lymphoedema.

They will line manage the junior team members.  

They will develop links with other services in the trust and the local community.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide a high standard lymphoedema service undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. Take a lead role as clinical specialist in the holistic, advanced  assessment of patients with lymphoedema with diverse presentations. These patients may have a wide variety of complex physical, emotional and psychological needs as a result of their cancer diagnosis or underlying health conditions. 

Use highly specialist clinical reasoning skills to provide a diagnosis and to develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes. The post holder works closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to make appropriate referrals where necessary to provide streamlined, coordinated care.

They will provide advice, support and supervision for Band 6 Lymphoedema therapists/ nurses. This may be in the form of formal training, reflective practice and clinical reasoning. 

Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further quality improvement in the service. 

Propose practice and policy changes which impact on the wider service and implement changes in own area

The service caseload includes people registered with Guildford and Waverley GP, along with those from neighbouring trusts where there is a service level agreement or non-contracted activity on a cost per case agreement, this may include private care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/degree level qualification in Nursing, physiotherapy or Occupational therapy
  • Membership of NMC, or the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or have alternative indemnity arrangements or relevant body
  • Evidence of on-going personal/professional development through maintenance of CPD portfolio
  • Masters in related field

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant NHS experience and demonstrable knowledge in core nursing, physiotherapy or occupational therapy skills including
  • Knowledge/Experience in the treatment of patients with Lymphoedema
  • Ability to teach skills/knowledge to others in both formal and informal environments
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of a clinical interest group in related field
