The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an enthusiastic, band 6 Midwife to join the midwifery team. 

This position is open to midwives who are interested in working within a Continuity of Carer model and are able to meet the challenge of delivering high standards of care, ensuring that each woman’s journey to motherhood is an individualised experience.

You must hold NMC midwifery registration.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Multi-professional team providing a high standard of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal midwifery care to women and their families within the integrated maternity service. To work as part of a continuity of carer team or rotate within all clinical areas within maternity services to support professional development and maintain safe standards of midwifery care in line with service provision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. This midwife is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care and is designated to take charge regularly of a ward area or an equivalent sphere within midwifery in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility. The post-holder will be required to work in both the community and the hospital across a 7 day service including night duties.  The post-holder is expected to supervise junior staff and to be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including basic and/or post-basic students.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife - NMC
  • Diploma level or above midwifery qualification
  • Shows consolidation of experience through achievement of Competency Skills in midwifery.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification/ Mentor preparation course

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a practising midwife
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
  • Member of relevant professional body
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within the community setting
  • Experience of managing a ward area
  • Experience of organising own workload and leading where appropriate
