The Fountain Centre is a cancer support charity providing a calm, welcoming environment for people affected by cancer, their families, and carers. We work in close partnership with the Oncology Services at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, offering complementary therapies and emotional support alongside medical treatment.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a volunteer Cancer Exercise Specialist to deliver safe, effective, and tailored exercise sessions for individuals affected by cancer. This role will support the physical and emotional wellbeing of clients, working alongside our clinical team to complement medical care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Deliver safe and tailored complementary therapy treatments to people affected by cancer
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to professional and safety standards
- Follow hygiene, infection control, and confidentiality procedures
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers at The Fountain Centre
- Attend inductions, training, and ongoing volunteer support and supervision sessions
Skills & Experience
Essential:
· Level 4 CanRehab qualification (or equivalent from another awarding body)
· Experience working with individuals affected by cancer
· Experience delivering exercise sessions to small groups
· Knowledge of exercise considerations for clinical populations
Desirable:
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to adapt exercises to meet individual needs within a group setting
· Involvement in patient assessment and discharge processes
What we offer
Volunteers will have the opportunity to gain experience working alongside an oncology physiotherapist and a clinical exercise scientist within a rapidly expanding exercise service. Volunteers will also have access to monthly CPD opportunities to support their ongoing professional development.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Membership of a professional body and appropriate insurance
- Experience providing complementary therapy treatments
- Understanding of safe practice and patient wellbeing
- Empathetic, professional, and reliable approach
Desirable criteria
- Experience or training in oncology or healthcare settings
- Experience supporting vulnerable clients
- Knowledge of fatigue, lymphoedema, or symptom management
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
