 Specialist Speech & Language Therapist – Adult Learning Disabilities Services, West Surrey. 

We are keen to hear from you if you are a looking for a band 6 Speech & Language Therapy role. 

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to be part of a forward-thinking adult learning disability health service consisting of Speech & Language Therapists, Nurses, Clinical Health Assistants, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Arts Therapists, Dietitian and Podiatrist.

You will need:

·       Experience of and specialist skills working with learning disabilities

      Experience of supporting the evaluation of service delivery

·       Experience of providing supervision and an interest in developing leadership skills

·       Experience in developing and delivering training

·       Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

·       Ability to work flexibly and independently

·       Enthusiasm, imagination and initiative

·        A full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

 

 

Main duties of the job

 To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the Speech and Language therapy needs of people with learning disabilities who use our services, taking the role of lead clinician for a person with learning disabilities as appropriate.

 To mentor, supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff including students.

 To participate in the recruitment, deployment and management of staff.

Working for our organisation

The post is based in one of our multi-disciplinary Community Teams for People with Learning Disabilities (Adults) covering West Surrey and North East Hampshire with three office bases in Guildford, Aldershot and Chertsey. There is an expectation to work across the patch.

The successful applicant will join a team of Speech and Language Therapists already working in East and West Community Teams as well as in the Neurodevelopmental, Children and Young Person’s, Older Age Adults and Forensic services.

 

 We will provide:

·       Active encouragement to access formal CPD

·       Supportive MDT working e.g. ASD assessment pathway and Positive Support Clinics.

·       Robust individual and group supervision including MDT group supervision

·       Appraisal programme

·       Excellent in-house training offering for leadership and soft skills courses.

·       Access to AHP Lead and AHP conferences.

Our Speech & Language Therapists are committed to supporting individuals, their support networks and multi-disciplinary colleagues in the promotion of effective communication in a proactive, person-centred way. Another key part of the support to people who use our services is to promote their safe eating and drinking.

There is a robust system for peer support, managerial and clinical supervision. Continued professional development is encouraged and supported through yearly appraisal and six monthly review.
