Job overview
As the most senior nurse and compassionate leader in the Division, the Divisional Head of Nursing (DHoN) leader will carry responsibility to act as strong role model for all colleagues by demonstrating credibility, visibility and strong commitment to identifying development opportunities, celebrating success, encouraging creativity, innovation and excellence in practice.
The DHoN will lead on the Trust Wide Quality, Governance and Compliance standards across the Division with responsibility for Division wide quality governance, compliance, clinical audit, research, development and quality agendas.
Main duties of the job
The DHoN is primarily responsible for supporting the provision of high-quality nursing and clinical care focusing on safety, effectiveness and experience agenda.
The post holder is an integral member of the divisional senior management team and a member of the Trust senior
nursing team.
You will work with the quartet to have shared accountability for the operational performance and strategic development of the Division. This will include accountability for high quality patient care, patient safety, safeguarding, clinical quality and governance, the delivery of agreed performance and financial objectives, and ensuring that the division operates with the needs of people who use services and their carers as its highest priority.
The DHoN will be responsible for delivering visible leadership to nursing and care staff within the division in order to constantly improve the quality of nursing practice delivered to people who use services. This will be in line with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, resource controls and constraints, and will lead the delivery of the nursing strategy for the Division and join the Chief Nursing Officer and other nurse leaders in the trust-wide delivery of the nurse strategy as a whole.
The DHoN will also support the Chief Nursing Officer with the delivery of a wider corporate nursing and quality agenda.

- Professional Nursing Qualification and current registration
- Master’s Degree in a relevant subject and/ or equivalent, experience
- Formal restraint training

Essential criteria
- Extensive successful experience in a demanding Senior Nurse role (Band 8c or above) or equivalent managerial role at a senior level within the NHS (Band 8c or above)
- Significant experience of working within inpatient mental health settings, community settings and crisis pathways
- Nurse leadership including knowledge and skills regarding revalidation
- Significant evidence of successful implementation of a range of clinical governance initiatives to develop practice
- Experience of patient/public involvement in enhancing patient experiences
- Significant experience in managing a multidisciplinary team and ability to team build and effectively lead a multidisciplinary team
