This job attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 in addition to £8000 relocation allowance. 

We’re looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Community Mental Health Team for Older People at our Redhill service, responsible for consultant oversight of patients aged 65 and over referred to the CMHT for Older People and registered with surgeries in the Horley locality. The team functions as a CMHT with integrated memory service. The post-holder will also be responsible for medical input to care homes in the East region.

 

Main duties of the job

Duties as an Approved Clinician under the Mental Health Act will occasionally be required. The role includes 2.5PA allocated to SPA, and the post holder will be encouraged to access the local academic programme on Friday mornings. The trusts supports consultants who wish to develop interests in Education, Medical Management and Research.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Consultant with licence to practice in good standing with the GMC
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act(or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant higher degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Make decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Experience working with various patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across different care settings, including community, inpatient, and Specialty teams.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric provision
Desirable criteria
  • Published audit or research projects

Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning

Essential criteria
  • Participated in research or service evaluation
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
