Job overview
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic doctor who wishes to develop their own skills in medical education & intensive care medicine, and further the educational programme in the critical care unit at East Surrey Hospital.
The successful candidate will be someone who is keen to innovate and who loves to teach. Dedicated education time will be allocated within your rota and you will be supported to build on the existing education work in our unit to develop a structured teaching programme focussed on the needs of learners. You will be working within the multi-disciplinary team, delivering regular teaching, clinical skills training, and simulation training. You will develop a portfolio of delivering education using different educational materials and formats. You will organise at least one regional critical care educational event. Your portfolio will include formal feedback. A motivated trainee will be encouraged and supported to exceed these minimum requirements.
This post is from August 2025 for 7 months.
The successful candidate will take part in a 1 in 8 on call rota. It is expected that this doctor will have achieved or be able to demonstrate actively working towards the FFICM, EDIC, MRCP, Primary FRCA or an equivalent examination. They should be someone who is keen to pursue a career in critical care medicine.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC or GDC registration with licence to practice
- MB BS (or equivalent medical qualification)
Desirable criteria
- FUSIC Heart accreditation (or equivalent)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Familiarity with UK Healthcare system
Desirable criteria
- 6 months post foundation experience in another speciality eg A&E, medicine, paediatrics.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Clinical skills and knowledge appropriate for level of training and has completed an appropriate number of work place assessments and MSF
- Awareness of limitations
- Seeks help appropriately
- At least a provider for one of the following courses - ATLS/ ALS/ EPLS or similar
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the level 1 BSE accreditation process
- Undertaken audit or research projects in last 2 years.
- Experience in bedside ultrasound (logbook evidence).
- Holds current Instructor status for one of the following courses – ATLS/ALS/EPLS or similar
