Clinical Support for Healthcare Support Workers

NHS AfC: Band 4

Job overview

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, as Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is not offered for this post.

This post plays a vital role in supporting newly recruited Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs), working closely with the wider Practice Development Team to ensure they are fully prepared for clinical practice and feel supported throughout their introduction to the Trust.

The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of the clinical learning infrastructure for new HCSWs, offering specialist advice, guidance, and practical support. They will help ensure that all new staff receive a high‑quality, consistent learning experience that promotes confidence, competence, and safe practice.

A key aspect of the role involves supporting individuals in the clinical environment and building strong working relationships with ward and clinical teams. This requires effective communication skills and the application of specialist knowledge, underpinned by theoretical understanding of a range of clinical procedures.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Apply a broad understanding of work procedures—many of which are non‑routine—and use this knowledge appropriately within the role.

Support the onboarding of new Nursing Assistants, ensuring a smooth, efficient, and positive induction experience by liaising with internal stakeholders and addressing any immediate learning or support needs.

Work independently, prioritising workload and meeting deadlines, while ensuring all new Nursing Assistants feel welcomed, supported, and able to access appropriate clinical advice, signposting, and guidance in collaboration with ward teams and managers.

Actively participate as a member of the Practice Development Team, contributing to the wider aims of staff development and high‑quality patient care.
