We are looking to appoint a full time permanent Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a special interest in Spinal Surgery to start April 2026
The post will be based, at Wexham Park Hospital near Slough with cross site work at our new Heatherwood Hospital – Elective Centre.
The job is full time, comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) and will include on calls. based at Wexham Park Hospital. The Trauma and Orthopaedic department is a large, friendly, forward thinking team, who work closely with their nursing, AHP and management colleagues.
Main duties of the job
To provide a full trauma and Orthopaedic service with a special interest in Spinal surgery predominantly for the local catchment population based mainly at the Wexham Park and Heatherwood Hospitals.
The appointee should demonstrate a major background training and continued interest in the management of trauma and be prepared to manage military patients with Orthopaedic problems in particular those of spines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are expanding our spinal service; this job is for a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a special interest in Spinal surgery. The job is a full-time post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs).
Supporting activities 1.5 PA
Direct clinical activities (including on-call) 8.5 PA
The appointment will be subject to the terms and conditions of the new Consultant Contract.
The final job plan will be agreed between the successful applicant and the Chief of Service.

Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Be able to work effectively in a team.
- Have a commitment to working within Trust policies and procedures as guided by the Clinical Director
- Have a commitment to Continuing Medical Education / Continuing Professional Development
- Ability to organise and develop service provision.
Desirable criteria
- Possess an enquiring and critical approach to work.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- FRCS or equivalent registration
- Part III of the Orthopaedic Fellowship intercollegiate examination
- Full GMC registration
- Entry on Specialist Register (CCST or entry expected within 6 months of interview date
Desirable criteria
- Fellowship of the British Orthopaedic Association and membership of an appropriate interest group
Experience
Essential criteria
- A wide grounding during training of all aspects of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery
- Specific training of more than one year in recognised unit providing specific training in Spinal surgery
- Ability to teach clinical and operative skills.
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates and operative skills to trainee specialists
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
- Undertaken research with published papers in refereed journals
Desirable criteria
- A current practical involvement in general trauma management as it applies to Trauma & Orthopaedics.
- Provider or instructor status as within the Royal College Advanced Trauma Life Support System.
- Proof of having an active and continued knowledge of and experience in practical everyday management of a wide range of orthopaedic disorders.
