Job overview

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting new ED that opened its doors in Spring 2019, which includes a new Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) with our own resus  bay. 

At Wexham Park PED, patient safety and effective patient care is our priority. Presently our PED see approximately one third of the patients that present to ED. We are looking to recruit paediatric staff nurses who are enthusiastic and motivated about emergency medicine. You will work with patients and their families; caring for children with minor injuries and illness, as well as paediatric traumas, and the critically unwell child in resus. Our nurses have the opportunities to attend in-house training programmes, these include, safeguarding training, domestic abuse, plastering/suturing, venepuncture/cannulation and IV training. Other courses available are the High Dependency module, Mentorship course, PILS and EPLS/APLS.

Main duties of the job

Establishes a good working environment in which all children and their families receive a high standard of care.

  • In conjunction with the team leader be responsible for an identified area of clinical practice within the Children’s Emergency Department.
  • Assess formulate and evaluate practice based programmes for children and young people in conjunction with their families and supervise the junior members of staff with their programmes of care.
  • Maintain a learning environment enabling learner nurses to achieve learner objectives.
  • Act as a role model to junior staff in Children’s Emergency Department.
  •  Act as a resource for the Emergency Department for Child protection Issues.
  • Participate in the induction of all new staff.
  • Maintain own continuous professional development.
  • Any other duties, which may be requested by the manager, to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
