Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join the Medicines Efficiency Team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

This role plays a key part in delivering the Trust’s Medicines Efficiency Programme, supporting cost-effective prescribing and optimising medicines use across all sites.

The post holder will work closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to implement medicines switches, support homecare services, analyse prescribing data, and ensure compliance with medicines governance processes.

 You will contribute to efficiency initiatives while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and quality of care.

This role is ideal for a proactive, organised pharmacy technician with a passion for improving medicines optimisation and delivering value within the NHS.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will support the delivery of the Trust’s Medicines Efficiency Programme by implementing agreed medicines switches and optimising homecare services to ensure safe, cost-effective use of medicines.
  • They will accurately process homecare orders and invoices in line with governance and contractual requirements.
  • The role involves analysing prescribing and financial data to identify efficiency opportunities and supporting implementation of cost-saving initiatives.
  • The post holder will provide technical support to pharmacy and clinical teams, including final accuracy checking of prescriptions where accredited.
  • They will deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician when required and support the training, mentoring, and development of junior staff.
  • The post holder will contribute to audits, KPI reporting, service development projects, and continuous improvement initiatives across the pharmacy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will support delivery of the Trust’s Medicines Efficiency Programme, implementing agreed medicines switches and homecare optimisation initiatives to improve value and patient care.
  •  Working collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and clinical teams, they will analyse prescribing and financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities and report outcomes to senior staff.
  • Responsibilities include accurate processing of homecare orders and invoices, maintaining patient and financial records, and liaising with providers and clinical teams to resolve queries in line with governance requirements.
  • The post holder will provide technical support to pharmacy and clinical teams, contributing to dispensary and ward-based activities, including final accuracy checking of prescriptions as an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician.
  • They will mentor and support junior staff, contribute to training and competency assessments, participate in audits and service improvement projects, and deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician when required.
  •  The role includes participation in rota commitments, including weekends and bank holidays.

  • Registered as a Pharmacy technician with GPHC
  • Recognised Accredited Checking Qualification.
