Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to join our Physiotherapy team at Wexham Park Hospital, working across Orthopaedic wards. 

About you 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Have inpatient orthopaedic experience as a physiotherapy technician, therapy assistant or assistant practitioner.
  • Enjoy supporting patients through assessment, rehabilitation, discharge planning and onward referral following admission to the orthopaedic wards.
  • Are ready to manage your own caseload, treating non-complex patients independently within agreed competencies.
  • Are keen to contribute to the development, support and supervision of Band 2–3 colleagues within the team.
  • Would value working in a busy, rewarding environment where excellent patient care, teamwork and professional development are central to the role.

Main duties of the job

What the role involves

  • Post-operative assessment, treatment and progression of rehabilitation plans, with support where required.
  • Assessment and treatment of appropriate non-complex orthopaedic patients, including those managed under the orthopaedic service.
  • Oversee the management of medical ward caseload within the orthopaedic physiotherapy service.
  • Provision, adjustment and education around mobility aids and equipment where required.
  • Supporting safe and timely discharge planning through effective communication with patients, families and the wider MDT.
  • Contributing to the induction, development and supervision of physiotherapy assistant staff.
  • Participating in the OT/PT weekend working rota as part of the wider therapy service.

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant CPD for role

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has worked as an orthopaedic in patient physiotherapy assistant in the NHS
  • Has evidence of managing a caseload independently
  • Experience of MDT working
Desirable criteria
  • Has worked as an orthopaedic band 3 or 4 technical instructor in the NHS
  • Has evidence of managing a ward independently

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of knowledge of orthopaedic anatomy and physiology
  • Evidence knowledge of risk assessing patients
Desirable criteria
  • Management of orthopaedic trauma patients
